A randomized and controlled study to compare the different didactical issues of learner settings in preventive E-Learning courses for sexual abuse

Abstract
Objective:
The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry / Psychotherapy of Ulm University Hospital (Germany) will be developing and evaluating an E-Learning platform “SEXUAL ABUSE” for teaching and health professions. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) (2011 to 2014). Main goal is to establish certificated and evaluated training resources for professionals who are working with children and adolescents in Germany.
Methods:
The main hypothesis is that the learning process of emotional effected contents is better integrated in learner behaviour with blended-learning courses than the pure online-courses. An online survey with randomized user groups and a control group (36 participants for each group) will be conducted at three different measuring times (before (t1) and at the end (t2) and half a year after the end (t3) of the course). Also a knowledge-based progress test will be conducted.
Results:
The expected results show the difference between learner behaviour on emotional learning process and help to understand the adapted construction of learning environment in child protection training. The web-based learning environment allows user groups to learn the way they prefer. The evaluation of the most effective way to learn helps people to get a certificate for finishing the courses, as soon as possible. The connection of systematic knowledge transfer and learning based on case-based examples ensures the relevance of its application in a working environment.
Conclusion:
As a specific focus, the need for preventative measures has been identified and based upon statistics and overviews, these data can be used for further scientific processing. This evaluation finds out which learning environmental is best to learn and apply learned topics of emotional effected contents and show how to hybrid the mix of E-Learning and face-to-face courses.
